Immersive Intelligence: we are embarking on our adventure

Since the beginning of the year, the project Immersive Intelligence – Virtual Reality for Co-Research and Multiple Learning Scenarios with the Immersive Technologies Hub of the htw Berlinhas officially been underway. The aim of the project is to develop a highly adaptable, data-secure and easily accessible VR platform for research, teaching and learning which will set new standards for academic collaboration.

The need for open (Open Source & OpenXR) and at the same time secure systems is obvious: traditional educational models require digital extensions if knowledge is to be shared quickly and research driven forward in an interdisciplinary and location-independent way. Immersive Intelligence addresses precisely this challenge. The newly created platform PROTOVERSE enables users to design virtual spaces flexibly and intuitively for various teaching and research formats – from interactive workshops to complex research collaborations. Or users can simply select from the sophisticated Templates. The focus is not on technology itself, but on improving exchange, interaction and participation.

What makes PROTOVERSE special?

Highest data security and full compliance with European data protection standards – no hidden uncertainties when it comes to login or cloud storage.

Low barriers to entry: Intuitive tools allow users to create their own immersive environments without specialist technical knowledge.

Maximum presence through VR: Excellent audio and tracking settings enable communication almost as if in a real space – without motion sickness or background noise.

Sustainable and efficient: The OpenXR standard was deliberately chosen for Protoverse to conserve resources and strengthen open-access alternatives.

Especially in the context of higher education, the system offers a genuine alternative to existing platforms, which often fall short in terms of data protection or didactic quality.
We look forward to sharing regular updates here on the blog over the coming months, including progress reports, practical examples and new perspectives from the project.
