Virtual encounter with hip hop dance
breaking virtual is a virtual experience with hip hop dance and at the same time a tribute to this culture that turned 50 in 2023. The audience – equipped with VR glasses – immerses itself in a virtual world, experiments with dance steps and experiences stories and values of hip-hop through an analogue lecture performance by artist Franklyn „Slunch“ Kakyire.
With breaking virtual, choreographer Regina Rossi and digital artist Gloria Schulz further develop their previous research into virtual spaces as a place for dance. With DANCE MACHINES, they pioneered the field of dance and VR in 2022 when they created a virtual dance class in which different people could meet in an analogue-virtual space. This time, together with „Slunch“, Nadja Häussler, Raphael Moussa Hillebrand and other artists from the hip hop scene, they researched the potential of virtual community building through dance and movement.
